The short answer

Follow your car’s service schedule by time or mileage, whichever comes first. Use the manufacturer’s guidance for your actual driving conditions and have new warning signs assessed before the next scheduled visit. A useful service plan separates urgent repairs, upcoming maintenance and items safe to monitor.

Small warning signs often come before a breakdown: a noise while braking, a temperature rise in traffic, steering vibration or a warning light that disappears. Regular maintenance creates a chance to investigate these changes before a car stops unexpectedly or needs a larger repair.

Abu Dhabi driving can involve high temperatures, dust, traffic and long journeys. A car that seems to run well can still have overdue service items. The useful starting point is the manufacturer's schedule, adjusted only as its instructions require for the car's actual use and supported by an inspection.

What does regular maintenance include?

Maintenance combines checks and services due by time or distance, whichever comes first. Its purpose is to monitor fluids and wearing parts and replace them when the schedule or their condition calls for it.

A visit may include engine oil and filter service, brake inspection, battery testing, tyre checks and fluid checks. Computer diagnostics are useful when there is a warning or a relevant symptom. Later services may include spark plugs, air and cabin filters, belts, brake fluid, cooling-system work and steering or suspension checks, depending on the vehicle.

Good service starts with your observations. The technician should explain the findings and distinguish immediate needs from items to plan for.

When should you visit the workshop?

There is no service interval that suits every car. Follow the handbook, taking account of age, mileage and driving conditions. Frequent short trips, idling or heavy loads may fall under a manufacturer's severe-use schedule. Check that definition rather than choosing an arbitrary shorter interval.

Do not wait for the next scheduled visit if warning lights appear, coolant repeatedly drops, a burning smell develops, brakes grind or feel soft, starting becomes slow, or the car vibrates or pulls. Stop safely and seek assistance for overheating, an oil-pressure warning or unsafe braking.

Oil and filter: a small service with an important job

Engine oil lubricates moving parts, helps manage heat and carries contaminants to the filter. The correct viscosity and manufacturer approval matter more than simply repeating the oil used last time. Check the service history and the specification for your engine.

Dark oil alone does not tell you whether it needs replacing. Time, mileage, the service monitor and the vehicle's instructions are more useful. Topping up a low level does not repair a leak or start a new service interval; repeated loss needs investigation.

Brakes and tyres: put safety first

A brake check should assess the system, not just look at the outer pad. Pad and disc measurements, leaks, fluid requirements and caliper operation help determine the right work. New noise, vibration or pulling can have several causes.

Check tyre pressure when cold against the vehicle's label or handbook, and look for uneven wear, cracks and bulges. Damage needs prompt professional assessment. A visual glance at the tread does not replace a proper condition check.

Cooling and air conditioning in Abu Dhabi

Engine cooling and cabin air conditioning do different jobs, although airflow and operating conditions can affect both. If the engine overheats, stop safely, switch it off and seek help. Never open a hot cooling-system cap.

Weak cabin cooling is not automatically a request for more refrigerant. Airflow, cabin-filter condition, fans, electrical controls, system pressures and leaks may all need assessment. Identifying the cause makes the repair decision clearer.

Battery and electrical checks

A car that starts today can still have an emerging electrical problem. Slow cranking, repeated jump-starts or recurring electrical warnings deserve attention. Test the battery, charging system and connections before deciding on a replacement. If charge repeatedly disappears while parked, investigate the cause.

Make the cost and priorities clear

Keep a record of service dates, mileage, oil specification, parts replaced and work being monitored. Tell the technician when a symptom happens: at cold start, in traffic, during braking or with the air conditioning on.

Ask for findings in three groups: urgent, due soon and suitable for monitoring. Agree the proposed work and price before it starts, and agree how any additional findings will be handled. At Fix And Drive in Musaffah M25, this clear discussion is part of choosing care that fits your car and your time.

Common maintenance questions

### Is the place of servicing the only thing that matters? The important checks are whether the service follows the correct schedule, uses suitable parts and fluids, and is documented. Also check any warranty or service-contract conditions that apply to your vehicle.

Can I delay service if the car feels normal?

Normal driving does not confirm that every item is in good condition. Only defer an item after its urgency has been assessed; keep a date or mileage for review.

Does every filter need replacing at every visit?

No universal rule applies. Use the schedule and the condition of the relevant filter rather than automatically replacing every filter together.
